Board of Director elections are underway!

The Virginia Art Therapy Association recently collected nominations and sent out the official election ballot for the Board of Directors positions of President, Secretary, and Delegate to the Assembly. All Board positions require a member vote in order to elect any nominated individuals, so all professional and new professional members are encouraged to follow the Survey Monkey link below and place your vote today!

We are proud to have many motivated and capable art therapists on the ballot, and members also have the opportunity to “write-in” their names or those of any colleagues who they feel would be a good fit for the open positions. “Write-In” candidates would have to be a VATA member, receive a majority vote, and accept the position in order to be officially elected.

We’d like to take a moment to spotlight our nominee for President, Ms. Melissa Mariner. Melissa received her B.A. from the College of William and Mary. After college, Melissa worked in the consulting industry for 8 years, during which time she served on the board of Friends of Art, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts’ young professionals organization, as Social Chair and President. Melissa returned to school at Eastern Virginia Medical School to obtain her M.S. in Art Therapy and Counseling and currently works in Richmond as an Individual and Family Counselor.

Also on the ballot is a link to our newly updated Chapter Bylaws, submitted for the approval of our members. Please review this document, and give us your feedback. After the election, the document will be forwarded to AATA for national level approval. You can view the Bylaws here:

The growth of our chapter depends on the participation and support of our members! Thanks for being a part of this important election! Please submit your vote by following the link below before November 21st. Click here to place your vote!

Sincerely, Erin Kemp, MA, ATR
